Silver S.T. Dupont lighters

Silver is the most versatile finish in the S.T. Dupont range — understated where gold announces itself, and equally at home on a 1970s Ligne 2 or a satin-finished 1990s Ligne 1.

This collection brings together silver and silver-plated pieces in vertical stripes, Prince of Wales, Chevron and brushed satin finishes. Each has been inspected, serviced where needed, and carries our one-year warranty.

Reading the finish

Most vintage Duponts described as silver are silver-plated over brass, with the markings struck into the base. Plating shows its age first on the edges, the cap rim and the high points of a striped pattern, which is where we photograph closely so you can judge the wear for yourself. Palladium and brushed steel models can look similar in a photograph but age differently in the hand. The guide to finishes and patterns sets the variations side by side, and the authentication guide covers the base markings in detail.

Looking for something warmer? The gold collection holds the plated and solid gold pieces, and the value guide explains what vintage examples sell for.

Buying a silver S.T. Dupont

Is this sterling silver or silver-plated?

Most vintage Duponts described as silver are silver-plated over brass, with the markings struck into the base — solid silver cases are the exception rather than the rule. Every listing says which it is rather than leaving it to the photographs.

Will a silver Dupont tarnish?

Silver and silver plate both dull with air and handling, which is normal and reversible with gentle polishing — unlike plating wear, which is not. Keep the polishing light: aggressive work thins the plate.

Silver, palladium or brushed steel — what is the difference?

They can look alike in a photograph and behave differently in the hand. Palladium is harder and does not tarnish; brushed steel reads cooler and hides fingerprints; silver has the warmest lustre of the three but needs the most attention.

Has it been serviced, and is it guaranteed?

Yes. Every piece here is inspected and serviced where needed before it is listed, and it carries our one-year warranty. A lighter that has sat unused for years normally needs attention — we do that work first, so it arrives ready to use.

Is it guaranteed authentic?

Every piece is authenticated before listing and authenticity is guaranteed. To check one yourself, our authentication guide covers the base markings and the colour painted inside the refill-valve cap.

What is it worth?

Condition, completeness and rarity decide it, and the finish matters more than the mechanics. Our value guide sets out the ranges, and the reference number decoder turns the markings on the base into an approximate date.

Can I return it?

Yes — you have 30 days from receiving it to request a return. The lighter needs to come back unused and in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and return shipping is arranged and paid by you. Contact us before sending anything: items returned without a request cannot be accepted. The full refund policy has the detail.
