S.T. Dupont Gatsby silver vertical stripes lighter
S.T. Dupont Gatsby — Silver-Plated Vertical Stripes, With Box and Papers
A vintage S.T. Dupont Gatsby in silver plate with a vertical stripe design, offered complete with its original red box, service booklet and papers.
S.T. Dupont produced its first luxury lighter in 1941, and by the time the Gatsby appeared the maison had spent decades turning the pocket lighter into a precision object. The Gatsby is drawn on a notably slim case, and that narrower body is the point of it: it sits flat in a jacket pocket in a way the fuller models do not, and it changes how a pattern reads across the face. Vertical striping in particular looks taller and more upright here than it does on a wider lighter.
This example wears fine vertical striping over the whole body, with the fluting continued across the roller. It is complete in a way these rarely are — the original red box, the S.T. Dupont service centre booklet, and the accompanying paperwork are all present, which matters considerably to collectors and is increasingly hard to find.
An elegant, slim vintage Dupont with its full original presentation. The lighter has been serviced and is in perfect working order.
