S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 Grand Modèle — Gold Prince of Wales, New Old Stock
A S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 in the full-size Grand Modèle, finished in gold with the Prince of Wales check, preserved in new old stock condition and with a notably loud, clean ping.
S.T. Dupont produced its first luxury lighter in 1941, and the Ligne 2 introduced in 1977 became its defining model. The Prince of Wales is among the most recognisable patterns in the catalogue — a fine checked guilloché borrowed from British tailoring, cut into the metal rather than printed on it, so it reads as texture rather than decoration and shifts as the lighter turns in the hand.
This example is new old stock: never carried, with the crisp edges and unworn plating that only an unused lighter retains. The ping on closing is unusually loud and clean, which collectors listen for and which is the first thing to soften on a well-used example.
It comes with its original box and the S.T. Dupont guarantee card, completed by U. Lorenzi of Via Dante in Milan — a long-established Milanese house — giving the lighter documented retail provenance from new. Serviced and in perfect working order.
