Buying a vintage Ligne 1

Which size Ligne 1 should I choose?

The Ligne 1 was offered in two sizes, and the smaller is noticeably slimmer in the pocket. If you want the proportions most people picture as a classic Dupont, choose the larger; if it will travel in a jacket pocket every day, the small is the easier companion. Both use the same mechanism, so the choice is one of presence rather than function.

What is the difference between the BS and the BR?

The BS, or Briquet Standard, came first in the 1960s. The BR, Briquet Réglable, followed in the 1970s and added an adjustable flame, which became the model’s definitive form and stayed in production into the early 2000s. A BR is the more practical daily lighter; a BS is the earlier collector’s piece.

Does it work, and has it been serviced?

Yes. Every Ligne 1 here is inspected and serviced where needed before it is listed, and it carries our one-year warranty. A lighter that has sat unused for years normally needs attention — we do that work first, so it arrives ready to use.

Is it guaranteed authentic?

Every piece is authenticated before listing and authenticity is guaranteed. If you would rather check one yourself, our authentication guide covers the base markings and the colour painted inside the refill-valve cap, which is the detail most counterfeits get wrong.

What condition should I expect?

Honest vintage condition, described as it is. Plating wears at the edges and on the high points of a pattern, lacquer can chip, and a case picks up marks over fifty years. Where that has happened we say so and photograph it closely, so nothing in the parcel is a surprise.

What is a vintage Ligne 1 worth?

Condition, completeness and rarity decide it, and the finish matters more than the mechanics. Our value guide sets out the ranges, and the reference number decoder turns the markings on the base into an approximate date.

Can I return it?

Yes — you have 30 days from receiving it to request a return. The lighter needs to come back unused and in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and return shipping is arranged and paid by you. Contact us before sending anything: items returned without a request cannot be accepted. The full refund policy has the detail.
