Buying a complete set

What should a complete set include?

The lighter, its original box, and the papers or guarantee card. Some still carry the original retailer’s tax stamp, which is the strongest provenance a vintage Dupont can have.

How much does the original box add?

Enough to be worth seeking out, and most of all on a piece that has never been used. A complete set is also easier to verify, because the papers and the box markings should agree with the reference struck on the lighter itself. Our value guide explains what a full set adds over a loose piece.

Does having the papers matter if I am keeping it?

Less than if you intend to sell, but they still settle what the piece is and when it was made without any guesswork. If the lighter is a gift, the box does a great deal of the work.

Has it been serviced, and is it guaranteed?

Yes. Every piece here is inspected and serviced where needed before it is listed, and it carries our one-year warranty. A lighter that has sat unused for years normally needs attention — we do that work first, so it arrives ready to use.

Is it guaranteed authentic?

What is it worth?

Can I return it?

Yes — you have 30 days from receiving it to request a return. The lighter needs to come back unused and in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and return shipping is arranged and paid by you.
