S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 BR — Large, Gold, With Box and Guarantee Card
A vintage S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 BR in the large size, gold plated and finished in a fine squared quadrillage pattern, offered with its navy S.T. Dupont box and a guarantee card that was filled in when the lighter was sold.
S.T. Dupont produced its first luxury lighter in 1941. The Ligne 1 BR — Briquet Réglable — arrived in 1964 and replaced the earlier BS by letting the user regulate the flame properly, with a roller beside the nozzle rather than a fixed setting. It stayed in production until 2013, which makes it one of the longest-lived lighters anyone has ever built.
The quadrillage finish is the quieter sibling of the better-known striped and diamond-tip patterns: a dense grid of small squares cut into the metal, each one catching the light at a slightly different angle. On the large body it reads as texture rather than pattern from a distance, and only resolves into a grid when you bring it close.
The paperwork is worth noting. The guarantee card was completed by the retailer at the point of sale and still carries the original owner's name and a Lyon address, so the lighter arrives with a documented first owner — something most vintage Duponts lost long ago. The navy box and the card are both present and photographed.
The lighter is in excellent condition, with the grid crisp across both faces and the gold bright and unbroken. It is photographed lit: it lights and holds a flame.
