S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 Petit Modèle — Gold Vertical Stripes, With Box

A vintage S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 in the smaller Petit Modèle size, finished in gold plate with fine vertical stripes, in mint condition and offered in its original S.T. Dupont box.

S.T. Dupont produced its first luxury lighter in 1941, and the Ligne 2 introduced in 1977 became the model the maison is known for. Vertical striping is the quietest of its engine-turned finishes and, on the small body, the most flattering. The lines run the full height of the case and continue across the fluted roller, so the lighter reads as a single tall object rather than a case with a mechanism bolted to it. On the Petit Modèle the stripes sit closer together than on the full-size model, which makes the finish look finer and the case narrower in the hand.

The base carries the serial 84 J F Z 42. The leading digits are the production year, which places this lighter in 1984, and the engraving is crisp and unworn — a base is usually the first place a lighter shows its age, because it is the face that meets the table.

Condition is mint. The striping is sharp across both faces, the gold plate is bright and unbroken, and there is no brassing at the corners or along the hinge. It is photographed lit: it lights and holds a flame.

It comes in its original black S.T. Dupont box, lined in tan and marked S.T. Dupont, Orfèvres à Paris. The box shows honest shelf wear at the edges. No guarantee card or booklet is present — the box and the lighter only.
